Attorney Ethel Mitchell was born in Texas and raised in Louisiana, where she attended St. Mary’s Academy as a boarding student in the French Quarter of New Orleans. After attending Fisk University and Columbia Law School, she served as law clerk to Chief Judge Almeric Christian of the U.S. District Court for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Attorney Ethel Mitchell remained in St. Thomas and practiced law with several law firms as a civil practice lawyer with personal injury cases, divorce, real estate and estate planning.

While in the Virgin Islands, Attorney Mitchell was one of the first women members of the Rotary Club II and a founding member of the Delta Sigma Theta Chapter in St. Thomas. Attorney Mitchell was a strong supporter of Kids And The Sea (KATS), a program that taught young people on the island how to sail.  She was an avid sailor and raced in the Rolex Regatta for four years.

After Hurricane Marilyn in 1996, Attorney Ethel Mitchell moved to Texas where she practiced law with her brother-in-law, Judge Louis Sturns, and attended the Executive MBA Program at Southern Methodist University.

In 1999, Attorney Mitchell attended the Post-Call Course at the University of Ghana Law School in Accra, Ghana.

Attorney Mitchell returned from Ghana to Washington, DC to serve as Director of Administration at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF). During that time, she served as Executive in Charge of Production for the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference for 2000, 2001 and 2002.

In 2003, she opened her law office in Washington, DC. Attorney Ethel Mitchell is the founder of Wills and Trusts LLC, an estate planning firm practicing law in the District of Columbia, Maryland and northern Virginia.

She is passionate about protecting, preserving and passing on family property for future generations. Attorney Mitchell has served her community by making presentations at churches, fraternal organizations, and private groups. For ten years, her groundbreaking radio program, “Law Talk With Ethel Mitchell,” has been broadcast over Radio One, WOL 1450 AM, www.woldcnews.com, www.lawtalkwithethelmitchell.com, and over the Tune In app. The podcast, “Law Talk With Ethel Mitchell,” allows people to listen to many of the radio programs on demand.

Attorney Mitchell has two children, who are both lawyers, and is an avid Formula 1 fan.
